A new beginning

All these days, I have not been writing. Time to take a vow to write everyday. And what betterway to start rightaway.

Let me begin with a cheerful note. India has bagged a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. So, what many had thought of being yet another session on o-limp-ics for Indian squad have been proved wrong. Now we have a medal to boast of.

Well, we didn't really celebrate that to the extent even a minor win in cricket would have evoked. And talk of Abhinav Bindra getting endorsements equal to Dhoni! I have my doubts if any brand can be bigger in India than a cricket or a Bollywood one.

But none can match the celebrations I was witness to in St. Petersburg when the locall team entered the semi-finals of UEFA cup (which they eventually won). The whole city got on the roads at 1 am in the morning, honking their vehicles rhythmically, waving flags, shouting their throats out, shaking hands with passers by, and so on. I loved it.

The picture here is of a Russian doll, this one has a total of 18 pieces of identical dolls put on inside the other. Great work of art and not very expensive either, at least in St. Petersburg, it could cost a lot more in Moscow though.
